SCHEDULE  8:45pm: Registration closes  9:00pm: Prelims 10:40pm: Finals 11:15pm: Awards FORMAT AND RULES Max 16 couples $10 per couple Relative placement scoring system Prelims Max 8 couples per heat, with up to 2 heats Song 1 (medium): Pure Balboa only (close body contact kept all the time, no breakaways, no lollies, …) Song 2 (medium fast): Bal-Swing All skate song The judges will pick up to 5 couples Finals Competitors dance all skate to 3 live songs Song 1 (medium): Pure Balboa only (close body contact kept all the time, no breakaways, no lollies, …) Song 2 (fast): Bal-Swing Song 3 (super fast): Bal-Swing Eligibility The contest is only open to amateur dancers An amateur here is a dancer who does NOT make more than 50% of his/her income from teaching Balboa (or other forms of Swing) and, in the past 5 years (i.e. since July 28th, 2003), neither has made it to the finals of other pro national Balboa competitions, nor has won the amateur division of a national Balboa competition.
